Copyright is not viable anymore. There are several reasons why it is no longer relevant to creativity. The copyright system takes time and money to access. It has not changed even though it has become much easier to be creative and put your created works and ideas out on the internet. Most young artists don't have the knowledge, time or money to hold onto their own pieces of work through pursuing a copyright. They must rely on big business--publishing companies, record labels, etc. who pursue copyright and then own the work. The artists lose the ability to control how their created works are used because they are owed by the company. An example of the situation would be what is currently happening to Taylor Swift. All of her first hits were owned by the record label and not by her. The company has sold her body of work to a person that Taylor does not like (Aswad). He is going around saying that he owns Taylor. She is not allowed to sing any of her original hits at her concerts without getting permission from him, and he won't give it. He also makes money every time her song is played. He could allow a bad company to use her original music in its commercials or other media and Taylor would not be able to fight that because of the copyright issues.
Another reason why the copyright on artistic works is no longer viable is because it has become much easier to steal creative works from others and commit copyright infringement. The copyright process doesn't protect you from this happening, because it takes attorneys and money to fight copyright infringement in the court system. So artists are pursuing copyrights on their works but it only protects you if you have a lot of money. Getting rid of the copyright system, or tweaking it to be better, would help school systems. From an art school, the students are expected to create many different works of art. As a student, it would be difficult to get enough money to apply for a copyright for that piece of artistic work. So student work is not covered by copyrights, and therefore is open to others who may claim it for their own. References Aswad, J. (November 15, 2019). The system of Mirrors, sliding glass door and windows is a system of diversity. Diversity of culture, race, backgrounds and things of that nature. I have found three picture books with diversity. Such as Tacky Penguin, Knock Knock, and the Invisible Boy. Each of these have similar but different events. Tacky Penguin and the Invisible Boy have cases of not fitting in. Being odd to the world they are apart of. In the end both characters find their places in the stories. Knock Knock deals with being able to get over barriers in life. Everyone deals with their own barriers. Eventually everyone finds their way to hurtle them.
